How long does it take for vision to stabilize after cataract surgery?
Modern cataract surgery is safe in more than 95 percent of cases. Despite the outstanding advances in cataract surgical technology, a small number of complications may always exist. How long does it take for vision to stabilize after cataract surgery is a question every cataract patient may ask. While healing is mostly uneventful, and vision stabilizes within a few days, changes may occur due to rare complications.
The time it take for vision to stabilize after cataract surgery is individual but usually by the next morning vision is restored.
The most common complication post-cataract surgery is Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO) in which there is a migration of lens epithelial cells to the posterior capsule of the lens which cause opacity influencing the vision of the patient, with a fall in visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. In this case, the reduction in vision will last until treated by YAG laser. The procedure is simple, with excellent outcomes and immediate improvement of vision.
Since complications after cataract surgery may occur, it is important to identify patients with higher risk factors so the ophthalmologist can take the necessary steps to minimize complications.
RevitalVision is a program done at home and achieves improvement in vision post-cataract surgery. The program consists of 30 exercises which last about 30 minutes each and are done under the supervision of an eye doctor. More than 85% of patients who completed the treatment improved their visual acuity by 2.5 rows on the testing chart and showed 100% improvement in contrast sensitivity.
